“They want different things”

The couple later confirmed their breakup in a statement to PEOPLE, saying: “Abbey and David spent four and a half years together and truly value the time they shared and each other.

“At this point, they want different things and have decided to go their separate ways, but they remain friends wishing each other the best.”

Now, Abbey’s mother, Christine Romeo, has opened up about her daughter’s breakup on her YouTube channel.

“There was no fight over engagements and rings being thrown around, I think people are missing the point on Abbey and David,” she said, according to Tyla.

“David was happy in his way of doing life, and Abbey’s was different. And they found that out over this period of time.”

Despite their split, Christine said she is grateful for the time they spent together: “It was a fabulous relationship. For anybody, a five-year relationship is a successful relationship. You learn so much, you grow so much.”

She also described how much the relationship meant to Abbey and said she is grateful for the way David helped her grow.

“Abbey has grown a ton, none of the growth would have happened without David,” she said.

“That’s what relationships are, they help us grow and change.”
