“Of course, sir, I understand.” Gloria’s voice was hurried, a mixture of apology and defensiveness. “I meant no harm. She just seemed fussy, and I thought a little variety might help.”
Michael knelt beside Emily, his daughter reaching out with tiny hands, her face lighting up upon recognizing him. Her innocent trust only fueled his determination to protect her. “Emily’s care is non-negotiable, Gloria. You should have come to me if there were issues.”
Gloria nodded, her expression a blend of contrition and unease. “I’m sorry, sir. It won’t happen again.”
