A mix of emotions played across Michael’s face: anger, betrayal, shock. He opened his mouth, but no words came. My calm demeanor had rendered him speechless, each word of the agreement pressing down on him with undeniable authority. Margaret, too, seemed lost for words. Gone was her usual air of superiority. Instead, she looked at me with a new mixture of emotions, perhaps even a begrudging respect. I supported Michael in every way I could, and in return, I was met with disdain and contempt. This isn’t about revenge—it’s about what’s fair.”

The lawyer coughed awkwardly, shuffling the papers as he prepared to address his client. The impenetrable confidence he had earlier was now replaced with a nervous energy, aware of the drastic turn the situation had taken. He knew, as they all did, that the prenuptial agreement was legally binding and meticulously crafted. Page six was their undoing.
