My husband and I have good incomes and have never complained. Recently, my MIL asked for rent help. I offered half pay, but she got mad and said, “You’re rich, but won’t pay my rent, you’re selfish!” The next day, to my surprise, I found out that my husband…had already been secretly covering her rent for months. He had been sending her money while also trying to help us save for our first home — and he didn’t want to disappoint either of us. I felt stunned — not because he helped her, but because of the secrecy and the harsh words his mother threw at me without knowing the whole truth.
