One woman hired me to clean her grand home on a trial basis. She greeted me politely, but there was a sense of distance, as if she expected disappointment. After a short tour, she left me with a neat stack of clothes to fold and asked me to check the pockets. I worked quietly, grateful for the opportunity and determined to do my best. The house was calm, filled with soft light and quiet expectations.
Ten minutes later, she hurried back, looking uneasy and unsure. Her eyes scanned the pile nervously, and she whispered a question: “Did you find a ring?” I smiled and gently held up a small gold band I had placed on the dresser for safekeeping.
