According to his agent, he passed away peacefully in Lake Placid, New York. Tolkan was widely recognized for his ability to portray tough, authoritative characters. In Top Gun, he played the strict commanding officer Tom “Stinger” Jardian, delivering sharp, memorable lines that left a lasting impression alongside Tom Cruise’s Maverick. In Back to the Future, he brought to life the stern Vice Principal Gerald Strickland, constantly keeping an eye on Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox.
