Dr. Brooks’ expression was hard to read, a mix of concern and urgency, as she held the scan results in her hand. She sat down across from us and took a deep breath before speaking, her voice gentle but firm.

“We found something on the scan, and it needs immediate attention,” she began, glancing toward Emma, who seemed to shrink at the words. “There’s a mass in her abdomen. It’s pressing against her organs, which is likely causing the nausea and pain.”

The room spun for a moment. A mass? My mind raced with questions that I couldn’t articulate. All I could manage was a choked, “What does that mean?”
