Her immediate instinct was to call Emily, but she hesitated. Emily was likely in a meeting, and Samantha needed to act quickly. Her next thought was Daniel, who was presumably somewhere in the house, but a nagging doubt in her mind told her to wait. She needed to make sure Oliver was safe.

She rushed to the nursery, her footsteps silent on the carpet. Oliver lay still in his crib, his chest rising and falling with the steady rhythm of sleep. Samantha felt a wave of relief wash over her, but it was quickly replaced with a renewed urgency. Whatever was happening in this house, she had to protect him.

Gathering her wits, she dialed 911, keeping her voice low as she explained the situation to the operator. “Please, send someone quickly. I’m at the Adams residence, and there’s an intruder… I have footage…” Her voice trailed off as she heard movement from the basement. Her heart leapt to her throat as she thought of Daniel.
