Julian, standing tall and composed, stepped forward. “Kevin, I believe it would be wise to move this gathering to a more… hospitable environment.” His eyes met mine again, a silent offer of protection and support. “Anna, you’re not obliged to endure any more of this.”My heart swelled with gratitude and a newfound sense of strength. “Thank you,” I whispered, my voice steadying. “Thank you for being here.”
As if on cue, Kevin’s mother, Rosa, appeared, wrapping me in another comforting hug. “Oh, my dear, you have nothing to apologize for. Family is what you make it, and you’re part of ours now.”The warmth and acceptance in her words were a balm to my frayed nerves. I nodded, feeling tears of relief prickle at the corners of my eyes.
