Weeks later, news traveled back to me: the other baby was born, a beautiful girl as well. The grand celebration turned to quiet disappointment in their home, where expectations had been built on pride instead of love. I felt no anger — only relief that my daughter and I were free from that world. I kissed her forehead and thanked life for guiding us toward peace instead of bitterness. Sometimes the greatest blessing is having the courage to walk away.
