Kidneys shrinking before the age of 30 is a serious condition, and doctors warn that some bad habits can lead to kidney failure in younger people. Here are two habits that cause kidney failure, which many people have:
1. Drinking too little water
Reason: Not drinking enough water is one of the main causes of kidney damage. When the body is dehydrated, the kidneys cannot function effectively to filter waste and toxins, leading to the buildup of harmful substances and damaging the kidneys.
Harmful effects: Dehydration makes kidney tissues more vulnerable to damage, and over time, this can lead to kidney shrinkage. If dehydration continues for a long time, kidney function may significantly decline, leading to chronic kidney failure.
Recommendation: Doctors recommend drinking at least 1.5 to 2 liters of water per day (depending on individual needs) to help the kidneys maintain their filtering and detoxifying functions.
2. Abusing painkillers
Reason: Over-the-counter painkillers, especially nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen, diclofenac, or aspirin, can cause kidney damage when used excessively or for prolonged periods. These medications can reduce blood flow to the kidneys, harm kidney cells, and impair their filtration ability.
Harmful effects: Abusing painkillers can lead to acute or chronic kidney failure. When the kidneys are damaged, their ability to filter waste and maintain fluid balance in the body is affected, leading to the accumulation of toxins and causing serious health problems.
Recommendation: Painkillers should only be used when necessary and according to a doctor’s guidance. Avoid using painkillers for extended periods or too frequently.
