Lion King composer sues comedian for $27m after ‘Circle of Life’ lyrics joke

A joke about the legendary film The Lion King could cost this one person a staggering $27 million. A Zimbabwean comedian made a joke about the lyrics of the Circle of Life song from the film, which didn’t go down well with the original composer.

Comedian Learnmore Jonasi has just been slapped with a huge lawsuit. The Zimbabwean comedian is accused of deliberately misrepresenting the meaning of the iconic chant at the beginning of the song “The Circle of Life,” the first song heard in the film The Lion King.

The composer behind the legendary vocals, Lebohang Morake, is not happy with what the comedian said.

Zimbabwean comedian Learnmore Jonasi made the joke during a podcast in February and repeated it several times during his many stand-up shows.

For those who don’t remember exactly when or how the chant is heard. Let’s refresh the memory. The Lion King begins with a beautiful sunrise, and in the background, a powerful African vocal can be heard.
